RAWALPINDI: A contingent of Russian ground forces on Friday arrived in Pakistan for first ever Pak-Russian joint exercise.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two-week long exercises beginning on Saturday (tomorrow) will continue till 10th of next month.
The joint military exercise has been planned on a massive scale with 200 military personnel participating from each side.
Earlier, the Indian media made a false claim that Russia has called-off its joint military exercises with Pakistan in the wake of Uri attack.
Russia had called on India to properly investigate the incident and make the organisers and perpetrators of this terror act accountable.
Russia is keen to improve ties with Pakistan as the latter looks to buy some advanced weapons.
Russia recently secured a deal for four Mi-35 Hind E attack helicopters from Pakistan.
Pakistan is also exploring the possibilities of buying the advanced Su-35 fighter jets from Russia.
In a military cooperation pact signed in 2014, both countries had expressed hope that the agreement will pave the way for exchange of views and information, as well as issues related to strengthening of mutual trust and international security, counter-terrorist and arms control activities. —INP
