ISLAMABAD: Pakistan government has approved more power to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that is now authorised to probe cases filed under anti-terrorism, anti-money laundering act and terror-financing.
The extension of power to FIA was approved by releasing a formal notification by the federal authorities. According to the notification, a police station will be established in FIA headquarters to be worked as anti-terrorism wing.
The newly-established anti-terrorism wing has been expanded across the country while FIA is now authorised to keep any suspect under 90-day custody.
Counter-Terrorism wing in Islamabad office has been given rank of police station while the federal-administered institution has provided powers to hold investigation into cases filed under Protection of Pakistan Act.
