New evidence shows Fetullah Gulen is preparing to flee to either Brazil or Argentina to escape extradition from the US to Turkey.
Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ presented his U.S. counterpart a comprehensive file detailing the U.S.-based Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) ringleader Fetullah Gülen’s plan to escape to either Brazil or Argentina.
FETÖ-affiliated foundations in Brazil and Argentina have launched arrangements to prepare for Gülen’s arrival.
In the file prepared by Ankara Public Prosecutor Alparslan Karabay, it states that Gülen sought asylum from Brazil and could escape to Brazil or Argentina, as intelligence sources confirmed that FEÖ-affiliated foundations in these countries had started preparations.
Gülen’s financial profit, gained within the framework of FETÖ’s activities, enable him to escape from the U.S., the file said.
Intentional manslaughter attempt, attempting to intentionally assassinate the president, attempt to remove the Constitutional Court from the Assembly, to remove the Parliament from its position and to prevent it from performing its duties, to abolish the Government of the Republic of Turkey and to prevent it from fulfilling its duty and establishing and managing a terrorist organization are among the crimes listed in the file demanding Gülen’s extradition.
The statements made by Brigadier General Ömer Faruk Harmancı, who made preparations for the coup in Ankara with the fugitive Adil Öksüz, are included in the file.
The organizational structure of FETÖ, the statement of the Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar, the five page confession of FETÖ-affiliated Levent Türkkan, the statement of Muhammet Uslu and the statements of secret witnesses and other key witnesses are also included in the file.
The file references a 1979 extradition treaty between Turkey and the U.S.
“Gülen is a citizen of the Republic of Turkey and currently resides at 1857 Mount Eaton Rd. 18353 Pennsylvania in the U.S. This person is being sought for arrest because of the many crimes committed in our country as well as the fact that he is the person who launched the bloody 15 July coup attempt. In accordance with Article 15 of the treaty, we demand evidence related to the coup in Gülen’s house and work places to be seized,” the file delivered by Bozdağ to his U.S. counterpart says.
FETÖ terrorists are led by U.S.-based Fetullah Gülen, who orchestrated Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt and is the mastermind behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
Since the failed coup, operations have been ongoing in the military, police and judiciary as well as in state institutions across the country to arrest suspects with alleged links to FETÖ.
