ADANA, Turkey: At least two people have been killed and 16 others injured in a car bomb attack in the parking area of the governor’s office in southern Turkey’s Adana province early Thursday.
Adana Governor Mahmut Demirtas survived the attack and announced the number of casualties as two dead, 16 injured.
Adana Governor Mahmut Demirtas told Turkish news agency the car exploded at 8.05 a.m. [0605 GMT] in the parking lot close to the office entrance.
“It is suspected that a female suspect carried out the attack,” Demirtas said. He added that the license plate of the suspect’s car had been identified.
The explosion caused damage to nearby vehicles and the governor’s building. The explosion blew out the windows in the multi-storey building.
Turkey’s minister for EU affairs Omer Celik tweeted that he had spoken with the governor.

Footage and pictures uploaded onto social media showed cars on fire outside the building and smoke billowing into the sky.
As yet no one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Meanwhile, the prime ministry has imposed a temporary broadcast ban on the blast, the Supreme Board of Radio and Television announced.
