ANKARA: Seeing growing human rights violations at the hands of Israeli forces, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday urged Pope Francis to back sanctions against Israel.
According to a US newspaper, in a telephonic conversation, Erdogan said that the Palestinians would continue to be “massacred” in their country as long as the world community does not punish Israel.
Appreciating the Pope Francis, the Turkish president said that continued reactions and messages from him in support of Palestinians would be of great importance for the mobilisation of the international community and Christian world.
He urged the international community to take solid steps to teach Israel a lesson it deserves.
Erdogan has been engaged in a telephone diplomacy bid to end Israeli atrocities in Palestine.
