ISTANBUL: Turkish president has appealed his followers to vote for constitutional change in the upcoming referendum likely to be held in the first week of April.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made this appeal while speaking at the opening ceremony of the extension of Kadikoy-Kartal metro line here in Istanbul’s Pendik district.
He said, “I believe you will walk to the future by working day and night in this campaign for the referendum”.
The Turkish president voiced hope that the nation will make a real decision.
Earlier, Turkish deputies votes in favour of a new 18-articlce constitutional amendment bill on Saturday.
The referendum is likely to be held early April after approval by Erdogan in the coming days.
Meanwhile, opposition parties argue that the amendment will weaken democratic checks and strengthen authoritarianism.
