England’s Kyle Walker becomes world’s most expensive defender

Manchester City have announced the signing of England international Kyle Walker on five-year deal.

Former Tottenham right-back has opted to take the number two shirt as he becomes the most expensive defender ever.

Walker becomes City’s third signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Bernardo Silva and Ederson.

“I am thrilled to be signing for City and can’t wait to get started,” Walker said.

“Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world and I feel he can help me take my game to a new level.”

It is pertinent to mention here that, Walker began his career at Sheffield United, where he spent a short period on loan at Northampton before returning to Bramhall Lane and impressing in the final few games of the season 2008-09 season as the Blades made the Championship playoffs.

The 27-year-old signed for Tottenham that summer and was immediately loaned back to Sheffield United as part of the deal to ensure his progress continued.
