Cairo: Egypt former elected President Muhammad Morsi has been sentenced for 20 years jail over killing opposition demonstrators, outside the palace in 2012. He was the first freely elected president in Egypt.

He became the president after 2011 revolution in the country and was removed by the military in 2013.

The verdict was issued after a brief hearing in a police academy on the outskirts of Cairo. Morsi was convicted for inciting his supporters to use violence against opposition demonstrators.

Muslim brotherhood supporters said that the verdict was violation of justice and dictated by government. They said that the sentence did not comply with evidence.
