The Chief Election Commissioner has suspended the schedules for elections of the reserved seats, election to the positions of Chairmen/ Vice Chairmen and Mayors/ Deputy Mayors in Sindh Province and bye-election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province till the constitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The Chief Election Commissioner took the decision after the tenure of all four Members of the Election Commission was completed on 12.6.2016 and they have relinquished charge of their offices and as such in complete Election Commission cannot hold the elections.
It is worth mentioning that schedule for election of reserved seats, administration of oath to the elected councilors and subsequent elections for Chairmen/ Vice Chairmen and Mayors/ Deputy Mayors etc. was issued in the province of Sindhon 9th June, 2016.
Similarly, schedule for bye-elections was issued in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 10th June, 2016 as per the relevant clauses of the Local Governments Acts of the provinces concerned.
