ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) banned implementation on Farmers’ Package announced by PM, terming it violation of code of conduct.
ECP secretary Baber Yaqub in a press conference on Wednesday said that the federal government made unlawful promotion of the ‘Kisan Package’ and banned its implementation till December 3, 2015.
The official said that Rs341 billion worth relief package was announced for farmers across the country on September 15, 2015 which includes provision of loans, aid and subsidies to the farmers.
Three sections of the relief plan was banished by the ECP including provision of financial assistance to farmers up to Rs5000 per acre on 12 acre fertile land and reduction of 0.2 per cent interest rate on rice and cotton, the official detailed.
He added that unnecessary promotion was run by the federal government for the Farmers’ Package despite prohibition for announcement of any development project after notification of electoral schedule.
