Dr Tahirul Qadri announces to quit politics, PAT chairmanship

LAHORE (Monitoring Desk): Dr Tahirul Qadri, the chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has announced to quit politics as well as the chairmanship of the party here on Saturday.

He, in a message shared via video link here in the provincial capital, said that he was retiring from Pakistani politics, political activities and from the PAT chairmanship.

“I am not handing over the PAT leadership to my sons, but transferring power to the party’s council,” Dr Qadri added.

Back in October 1981, he laid the foundation of Minhaj ul Quran, a non-profit providing education, religious and cultural services.

Later in May 1989, Dr Qadri established the Pakistan Awami Tehreek.
