Dr. Joseph Strasser, Consultant of Consulting Service International LTD., Hong Kong visited Pakistan for conducting a survey on behalf of GIZ (European Union) regarding the status and situation of Compliance of recognized labour rights in Textile and Garments Sector of Pakistan.
So as to compile a comprehensive Survey Report in the subject matter for onward submission to GIZ. In this connection on 9th February, 2016 Dr. Joseph have a meeting at PILER Centre, Karachi with a delegation of Sindh Labour Federation (SLF) headed by its President, Shafiq Ghauri alongwith Shaikh Majeed and Asif Amin (Advocate).
During this meeting, Dr. Joseph discussed in depth the various issues regarding status and implementation of recognized universal labour rights, the role and affectionless with outcomers of tripartite mechanism as also the formation of WEBCOP its objectives and the achievements as yet of bilateral dialogue. He also showed his concern about considerable number of Yellow Union in the Textile Garments Sector and non compliance of Safety and Health matters.
Earlier Dr. Joseph has meetings with the representatives of Employer of this sector and with the Joint Director Labour Sindh, Gulfum N.Memon and Ashraf Naqvi as also visited the office of Employers’ Federation of Pakistan and meet Mr. F.K. Siddiqui for obtaining these views.
During meeting with SLF, Dr. Joseph was also informed about the recent crisis and privatization of PIA and the apprehension of employees by Shaikh Majeed. Qazi Siraj of Daily Jasarat also attended the meeting.
