Desert Ants’ navigation system

262

A desert ant has an amazing navigation abilities. Many ants lay down trails of chemicals wherever they walk. The ants use these trails to find their way to food and return home.

But the desert ant do not lay down trail. The Ant go out on seemingly random searches and always find their way home. The ant use a process called path integration, which is similar to internalized GPS system.

The Ant remember how to go home using a memory of their route based on visible landmarks that they store in their tiny brains. This is similar to humans using a familiar route.

This extremely effective system ensures that if ants lose its way from their usual path, they can use these visual cues to adjust themselves.
