ISLAMABAD: The defence ministry has approved the Election Commission of Pakistan’s request for the deployment of Army jawans at polling stations during the 2018 general elections.
Preparations for the general elections are in the final stages. The ECP had written a letter to the defense ministry for deployment of 03.5 million soldiers at the polling stations, which has been approved.
The soldiers retired two years ago have also been called for duty.
Sources say that the defense ministry has summoned the retired personnel from all three military wings and they will have the same authority as the serving soldiers.
Military personnel have been called four days prior to the election day. They will be posted in and outside the polling stations.
