Death toll rises to 52 in Shah Noorani shrine blast

HUB: The death from Saturday’s Shah Noorani ‘suicide blast’ has risen to 52, a preliminary report said on Sunday, adding over 100 injured. 

The blast took place yesterday when a devotional dance ‘Dhamal’ was being performed inside the shrine of Shah Noorani located in Khuzdar district at around 5:50pm.

The report said that over 7 kilograms of explosives were used in the suicide blast carried out by a teenage boy whose appearance was Afghan. It added that the head of bomber had been found from the site.

The bodies and injured were shifted to various hospitals in Balochistan’s Khuzdar, Hub, Lasbella districts and Karachi’s Civil Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Authorities said rescue operation has been completed at the shrine.

The blast is taken place a day before the formal opening of trade activities at the Gwadar Port. In this connection, a ceremony will be held today at Gwadar Port.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif and chief ministers of Punjab and Balochistan will attend the ceremony.

Sources said that invitations were also sent to the chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh but they will attend the event.
