Daesh behind suicide attack on JUI-F convention blast in Bajaur: Police

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police said Monday an initial probe suggested that the terrorist organisation Daesh is behind the suicide attack on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) workers’ convention in Bajaur.

Yesterday, at least 35 people were killed as a result of an explosion at the workers convention of Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) in Bajaur.

According to local TV, the blast took place inside the workers’ convention in Khar, resulting in several injuries.

According to the police, 35 people were killed in the blast and Maulana Ziaullah Jan, Ameer of JUI Tehsil Khar, was also among the dead.

Police say that more than 80 people have been injured in the blast and have been shifted to the hospital

District Emergency Officer Bajaur has said that the injured are being shifted to Taimargarh and Peshawar and the condition of many is critical.

Geo News cameraman Samiullah was also seriously injured in the blast.

Police and law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area, while the nature of the explosion is yet to be revealed.
