CPEC to boost trade across region: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday said Pakistan was actively pursuing regional integration and the US $ 46 billion dollars investment and infrastructure projects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would boost trade across the region.

Talking to DG World Trade Organization Roberto Azevedo who called on him here at the PM House, the Prime Minister said CPEC alone has the potential to immensely enhance trade amongst the regional countries and improve lives of millions in the region.

The Prime Minister while highlighting the importance of trade said Pakistan was gearing up its trade-related laws to achieve full integration in the Global Supply Chain.

A press release from the PM House said Pakistan was ready to enhance its partnership with WTO and was open to international competitive trade ideas.

The Prime Minister said improved law and order situation under the present democratic government has brought economic stability in Pakistan.

“Our government is addressing the power shortage issue and we expect to completely resolve this issue by 2018, after the completion of certain power projects.”

He said peace has been restored in the mega city of Karachi and terrorists were on the run due to the successful military operation. He said it would help Pakistan attract foreign investment by building confidence of the investors and businessmen.

The DG WTO Roberto Azevedo said Pakistan was an ideal destination for business and investments.

Azevedo complimented the Prime Minister on his vision on economy and his efforts to take up challenges of political stability, improving security, achieving energy self sufficiency and infrastructure development.
