ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal says China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a project of national importance for economic development of the country.
Talking to media in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said the project would be completed in phases. In the first phase, the road connectivity would be completed to interconnect the entire region.
He said no new road is being constructed under this project but the existing roads are being upgraded to connect different areas of the country.
Ahsan Iqbal said the 650 KM Gwadar-Surab road was being completed on priority basis to link the all-important Gwadar Port with rest of the country. He said that up-gradation of Quetta-D.I.Khan road is also vital due to its importance.
He said Federal Government would fulfill all of its commitments about western route, passing through backward areas of KPK and Balochistan on priority basis. He said it would put the country on rapid path of progress and development.
