ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) must not be used as political agenda of 2018 general elections.

Talking to a private news channel, he said that 30 soldiers of Pakistan army has already been martyred during the construction of western rout and this must not be forgotten by using CPEC in elections politics.

He said CPEC is the guarantee of Pakistan’s bright future and maligning its name for political agenda will be like playing with the future of Pakistan.

He informed that construction of road from Dera Ismail Khan (D.I.Khan) to Burhan is in progress whereas on Northern route work is in progress on priority.

He disclosed that construction of road was also in progress to join Gwadar to Quetta.

It will be connected with Quetta to Afghanistan and then central Asian countries, he added.

The minister said, for the first time, the incumbent government has made prudent policies to generate electricity from Thar Coal project.

He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would change the fate of Balochistan province.

The Minister said, Gwadar to Quetta and Gwadar to Khuzdar roads would be completed by December 2016, adding the under-developed areas of Balochistan would be connected with the country after completion of these highways.

Ahsan Iqbal said, the country had been put on the path of development and “We can make Pakistan an Asian Tiger through peace, solidarity and hard work.”

“The energy had been given preference in the projects being completed under the CPEC initiative,” he added.
