Cotton production shows 13.28pc increase

MULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to over 9,778,451 bales has reached ginneries across Pakistan as of Dec 1, showing an increase of 13.28 per cent as compared to corresponding period last year when ginneries received 8,631,933 bales.

The PCGA fortnightly report said that out of the total arrivals, 9.77 million bales of cotton have been converted so far into bales. Ginneries in Punjab recorded arrival of 6,158,870 bales, recorded increase of 20.69 per cent.

Sindh ginneries recorded arrival of 3,619,581 bales while last year Sindh received 3,528,841 bales merely 2.57pc more.

Ginneries in Sindh recorded an increase of 2.57pc as compared to corresponding period last year. Textile mills have bought 7,683,980 bales while exporters bought 184,944 bales. The total bales sold out so far were calculated at 7,868,924 bales.

In Punjab, Multan received 280,863 bales with 142.15 per cent increase than last year, Lodhran 173,443 bales with 115.59pc increase, Khanewal 552,071 bales with 56.25pc increase, Muzaffargarh 302,665 bales with an increase of 29.46pc, DG Khan 319,937 with an increase of 17.51pc, Rajanpur 328,994 bales with 16.45pc decrease, Layyah with 253,314 bales and 11.20pc increase, Vehari 351,881 bales with 22pc increase, Sahiwal 197,933 bales with 13.08pc less than last year.

Faisalabad 34,330 bales with 24.25pc less than last year, Jhang 29,762 bales showing decrease of 26.62pc, Mianwali 236,609 bales with decrease of 6.99pc, Bhakkar 59,827 bales with 18.70pc less, Sargodha 9,200 bales with 16.36pc less, Rahimyar Khan 1,013,356 bales with 6.47pc less.

In Sindh, Hyderabad 223,595 bales with 8.52pc less than last year, Mirpur Khas 267,737 bales with 1.02pc less, Sangarh 1,210,509 bales with 6.48pc decrease, Nawab Shah 313,860 bales with 5.31pc increase, Noshero Feroze 322,564 bales with 17.73pc increase, Khairpur 273,409 bales with 12.96pc increase.

Ghotki 277,725 bales with 6.56pc increase, Sukkur 480,945 bales with 22.29pc increase, Dadu 38,500 bales with 25.30pc increase, Jamshoro 110,236 bales with 17.12pc less, Badin 27,027 bales with 14.47pc less and Balochistan 73,874 bales with an increase of 30.54pc.

Total 788 ginning factories are operational in the country and out of them 566 in Punjab and 222 are in Sindh. Total 1,909,527 bales are lying in unsold stock.—APP
