KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Naeem-ur-Rehman has declared corruption as the largest risk to the integrity of the country.

In a statement on Thursday, he said that the corruption has hit hard the society like a gangrene and is now become a danger for national integrity, democracy, electoral process and ethical values of the society.

He was of the view that the Corruption Free Pakistan campaign is the need of the hour. He said that corruption worth Rs 12 billion is being done on daily basis in Pakistan and the issue should be addressed adequately.

The JI leader said that even the electoral process, which is the only mechanism of peaceful change in the society, has also became corrupt in its core. He announced that the electoral corruption would have a center point in the focus of the JI campaign.

He said that corruption is the mother of all evils in Pakistan. It is corruption that paves way for corrupt politicians towards the corridors of power. It is responsible for huge foreign credit. It is the basic cause of unfair and unequal social system, unequal opportunities that result in poverty.

Engr. Naeem was of the view that corruption is the major hindrance in the progress and development of Pakistan.

He said that the institutions, established to curb corruption, themselves have become corrupt and are used to threaten political rivals. He said that the ruling regime is feared of the National Accountability Bureau because the institution has been chasing 150 cases of mega corruption. Auditor General had also raised objections over the bills of worth 4.2 trillion several years ago but the statistics have to be corrected yet.

The JI leader demanded of the government to declare plundering as treason and terrorism through legislation.
