ISLAMABAD: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq on Wednesday termed corruption as the biggest barrier in national development and prosperity. He said elimination of corruption would result end of hefty loans and betterment of internal and external situation of the country.
The JI Ameer clarified that his political party was fighting the case against corruption in interest of nation but neither to fight from any political party nor a political showdown. He said that Panama leaks’ matter was an unusual genre of case.
He detailed that the federal government barricaded lawmaking over Panama leaks as it wanted to impose self-styled Term of References (ToRs). He expressed his views while interacting with media persons outside the Supreme Court (SC) building after hearing of Panama Papers’ case.
Sirajul Haq said that looters and dacoits will have to answer before the nation. He said the JI counsel completed his arguments in the apex court while hearing of second case is due which was filed by JI. He requested the apex court to retain the same bench for hearing of second case.
The Senator demanded to hold accountability of Prime Minister and Sharif family first, and later scrutiny of all other persons who were named in leaked Panama Papers. He said the apex court was questioning the premier regarding companies linked to his family members. He added the situation will turn suspicious if Sharifs failed to produce appropriate answer before the SC.
Later, Senator Sirajul Haq visited protest camp organised by local bodies’ representatives belonging to Balochistan at National Press Club. While addressing the protesters, the Senator expressed sorrow over turmoil of local bodies’ institutions in the Balochistan province where conducted LG election first as compare to other provinces. He said that the government was not providing funds and authorities to the LG representatives.
The JI Ameer said Balochistan LG representatives arrived in Islamabad for their rights. He advised the provincial government to strengthen local bodies’ institutions instead of neglecting it. He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with LG members of Balochistan province.
Moreover, the JI Ameer also met a protesting family belonging to Loralai area of Balochistan. He said the family members including women were forced to live under shade of plastic sheet. The persons were displaced from their houses in Loralai. Sirajul Haq expressed solidarity with the family and vowed to raise the issue into the Upper House (Senate).
