Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Wednesday directed to hold an inquiry to find out truth in the case of Aftab Ahmed, who died in Karachi in custody on Tuesday.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS instructed to ensure that justice must be done.
Earlier, Para-military Rangers have formed an investigation committee to probe the death of Aftab Ahmed, an MQM worker in Rangers’ custody.
Aftab Ahmed was the coordinator of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s senior leader Farooq Sattar.
A high-level investigation body has been formed on the orders of DG Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar to investigate the motives behind Ahmed’s death, according to a press release issued by the para-military force.
MQM had alleged that Ahmed died in Rangers’ custody whereas the para-military force has claimed that he died of heart failure in a hospital.
