KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday extended the deployment and authority of Rangers in Karachi for a year.

The extension is given under Article 147 of the constitution and a notification has been issued in this regard.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani while speaking to media said that Rangers can take action against any criminal element they deem fit.

The decision was reportedly taken on the directives of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari who asked the CM Sindh to extend the power of Rangers for one year to ensure smooth and across the board operation in Karachi.

The announcement came at a time when Rangers had conducted a raid on the headquarters of urban Sindh’s strongest party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) while MQM chief is already under fire for his alleged anti-Army statement.
