CJP seeks fraud report in placing stent in heart patients

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar Tuesday directed the Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on reports of fraud in placing stents in heart patients at Lahore.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of fraud inputting stents in heart patients, a Supreme Court press release issued here said.

The action was taken on reports that Cardiac Ward of Meo Hospital, Lahore and other government hospitals of Punjab are either putting stents in heart patients even when the same were not required or charging patients at exorbitant rate up to Rs 180,000 for each stent, that actually cost nominal price of few thousand rupees.

There were even reports of not implanting stents in patients, while they were charged for stents on fake/bogus Angioplasty.

Taking notice of the issue, the chief justice ordered to call report in the matter from DG, FIA.
