ISLAMABAD: Chinese President Xi Jinping along with his delegation on Tuesday held a group meeting with the Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq , the Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani, the deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah.
Deputy Speaker NA, Murtaza Abbasi, House leader in Senate Raja Zafar Ul Haq, Opposition leader in Senate Aitazaz Ahsan were also part of Pakistani delegation.
Talking to the delegation, the Chinese President emphasized the need for enhanced parliamentary level exchanges between the two countries for further building and consolidating the bilateral relationship.
The Chinese President said the traditional relations between the two countries are passing from generations to generations. It is the responsibility of our generation to further consolidate the relations. He said our traditional relations are a valuable asset for both the nations. Chinese people call Pakistanis as iron friend and we value our friendship with Pakistan.
Referring to his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Xi Jinping said we both have agreed to elevate our relations and transform them into strategic economic partnership. He was optimistic of the future prospects of the relationship.
The Chinese President also noted with appreciation that the political parties in Pakistan have unanimous view on building strong relations with Pakistan.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said Pakistanis have special love and affection for the peoples of Chinese people. We deeply have followed the progress and development made by China over the last many years.
The speaker thanked the Chinese president for Beijing’s support on Kashmir and said that Pakistan also believes in one China policy.
On terrorism, the speaker national assembly reiterated the Pakistan’s resolve to wipe out the menace.
About the Pakistan China economic corridor project, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was confident that this will open new era for both Pakistan and China. He said each province of Pakistan will benefit from this mega project.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani said the peoples of Pakistan and China have historic relations spanning over many decades. The friendship between Pakistan and China have withstood the testing times. He said we are looking forward to new initiatives of China on the economic fronts for the betterment of the peoples of Asia.
Later the Chinese President along with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani inaugurated solar power system of the parliament.
The join session will begin at 9:45 am and the Chinese first lady along with a 60-member delegation will be in attendance.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will address the joint session of Parliament on Tuesday (today).
President Xi Jinping’s address will be followed by Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The joint session will be attended by chief ministers, governors, service chiefs, diplomats and other important personalities.
