Chinese company expresses interest in power projects in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Chinese energy company, Three Gorges Corporation led by Mr Qin guo Bin, Chief Executive called on Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, here in his office in Islamabad.

Areas of mutual interest cooperation in the various energy power projects came under discussion.

It was apprised that the Chinese company was interested to make investment in the upper Indus hydropower projects. The Minister extended full support for the Indus Energy cascade like, Diamer Basha, Bunji, Thakot and other hydropower projects which have the capacity of 35,000MW.

The delegation requested that a basic data might be provided for the review work on 7to 8 hydropower projects on the upper Indus , On this the minister said that that chairman WAPDA would give full data and the Ministry of Water and Power along with finance division would facilitate and cooperate them .

The Minister also highlighted the importance of the hydropower power projects in the reference of Chinese Pakistan Energy Corridors and said that as the CEPEC was coming on the River Indus so Mega Projects in Energy sectors would put new dimensions to CEPEC.

The Minister also appreciated the Chinese companies’ efforts in the overall infrastructure developments in the country and hoped that through each passing day the relation would be strengthened.
