China to set up liquor manufacturing plant in Islamic Republic of Pakistan

KARACHI: A Chinese liquor firm is all set to establish a manufacturing plant in Pakistan.

According to a local new channel, Hui Coastal Brewery and Distillery Ltd, the Chinese company, had already obtained a licence for setting up the liquor plant in Balochistan’s Lasbela district. The licence was issued by the Balochistan excise, taxation and anti-narcotics department.

The Chinese company, which is known for the world’s famous brands, has also registered itself in April 2020 with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

Sources said that the manufacturing and packaging of liquor would be   carried out at the Lasbela plant.

They added that the Hui Coastal Brewery and Distillery Ltd had planned to introduce two popular liquor brands in Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that wine is forbidden (haram) in Islam.

Wine’s consumption and sale by Muslims is banned in the country since 1970s.
