Chilly weather brings miseries for quake-hit people

ISLAMABAD: Spell of rains and snowfall in upper areas of the country on Wednesday has turned the weather colder bringing more miseries for the quake-hit people.

Dark clouds surrounded Gilgit-Baltistan, Malakand, Hazara and Kashmir with intermittent rain still continuing and thickening clouds in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, and adjoining areas.  It also rained lightly in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore, whereas cloudy weather has also been predicted in various areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) office has further forecasted drizzling in Peshawar and Mardan while scattered rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over hills is also expected in next 24 hours.

On the other hand, victims of Oct 26 earthquake and its subsequent aftershocks, who have been living out in the open, are facing additional problems because of rain and snowfall in upper parts of Pakistan as they have no shelter other than tents and no warming facilities.

Spokesman of Met-Office informed that a westerly wave has entered Pakistan on Sunday evening. Under its influence, more rain-thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) is expected at scattered places in upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan divisions), Rawalpindi division, FATA, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Gujranwala, Sargodha, and Kohat divisions during the next 24 hours.
