CEC takes notice of barring women to vote in KP LB polls

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Raza Khan took notice of barring women to case their votes during Local Bodies’ election in Union Council of Balo in Nowshera city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

CEC directed chief secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make rapid and strict action barring women voters to cast their opinions independently in the LB polls scheduled on May 30 (tomorrow).

According to reports, tribal elders have announced not to allow 5,353 women to cast votes in the LB polls as per letter of Deputy Returning Officer (DPO) to CEC.

Commenting over the situation, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Pervez Khattak said that the government has responsibility to maintain law and order during the LB polls while ECP is responsibility for all duties of the polling event.
