QUEBEC CITY, Canada: About three gunmen entered a mosque here on Sunday night and opened indiscriminate fire on worshipers, martyring at least six and injuring several other, an official at the mosque said.
Eyewitnesses said that upto three men armed with weapons entered the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center when about 40 worshipers saying their Esha prayers inside the main hall of the mosque at around 8:00 PM local time. As a result, at least five Muslims were martyred and several others wounded.
A spokesman for Quebec police said that two people had been arrested in connection with the attack. He also confirmed the deaths inside the mosque.
Quebec police in a message posted on Twitter said situation is under control after worshipers had been evacuated from the mosque.
Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center President Mohamed Yanqui strongly condemned the attack. He said that the injured had been shifted to different hospitals of the city for treatment. However, he could not tell the exact number of the wounded people.
