Brussels remains shut under terror alert, raids and arrests underway

BRUSSELS: Raids and arrests were underway in the Belgian capital, Brussels, undergoing ‘imminent threat’ post announcement of Prime Minister Charles Michel for imposition of highest terror alert, foreign media reported.

Belgian federal prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw said that authorities carried out around 20 search operations on Sunday while at least 16 people were arrested, however, no arms or explosives were recovered so far.

Students’ bags will be searched at the front doors of schools while administrators will be tasked with verifying the identities of everyone on school grounds, the Ministry of National Education website said.

Moreover, one suspect of Paris attack, Salah Abdeslam, remained at large so far who was grew up in Belgian.
