British High Commissioner calls on JI Ameer Sirajul Haq

LAHORE: British High Commissioner in Islamabad, Phillip Barton, called on the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq, in the federal capital on Monday and exchanged views on the recent developments in the region and international situation.

At the meeting, the JI chief stressed upon the world community to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiris for establishing lasting peace in the region. He said that Britain should take special interest in resolving the issue that had bedeviled peace in the region for the last six decades.

The JI chief discussed the problems being faced by the Pakistani immigrants in Britain and said that the procedure of issuance f visas to the Pakistanis should be simplified.

Sirajul Haq also underlined the importance of peace in Afghanistan and said that Britain could play an important role in the restoration of peace in Afghanistan. He said that British could pressurize the world community including the US to stop interference in Afghanistan and respect the sovereignty and independence of the war ravaged country.

The JI chief told the British diplomat that the Yemen situation was a local issue of that country and should be resolved accordingly so that the flames of war did not engulf the adjoining areas. He said that the trend of toppling governments by force would only lead to instability in the world and the world community should not allow local issues to surface in any part of the world.

On the occasion, the British diplomat apprised the JI chief of the investment plans of his country in Pakistan.

The British High Commissioner commended the role of the JI and the JI chief in the country’s politics and said he wanted to visit Mansoora soon for a detailed meeting with the JI leadership.

JI deputy chief Mian Muhammad Aslam and JI deputy Secretary General Muhammad Asghr were also present at the call on.
