LONDON: British Police have evacuated 14 schools across the country on Tuesday following bomb threats which would be temporarily shut till completion of search operation. The temporarily shut six schools in Birmingham, four in London and four in Cornwall, police said.
Metropolitan Police say four schools, two of which are believed to be Richards Lodge School and Raynes Park High School, have been evacuated over threats, Mirror UK reported.
A spokesman said: “Police were informed of four separate calls made to schools across London this morning (26 January) claiming a suspicious device had been left at their premises.
Officers in Cornwall said secondary schools in Penzance, St Ives and Truro received calls suggesting the threats at about 8am and as a result school heads decided to carry out the evacuations. Two schools include St Ives School and Humphry Davy School.
After police attended, by 9am there was found to be no threat and no risk to any children or staff.
Schools affected in Birmingham are Oldbury Academy, Holly Lodge High, Bristnall Hall Academy, George Slater High School, Earls High School, and Four Dwellings Upper School.
Officials said intelligence experts believed they were hoaxes and there was no ‘credible threat’. At least three of the schools targeted were also evacuated last Tuesday, when a total of four schools in the Black Country received hoax calls.
There were also unconfirmed reports that Holly Lodge School in Smethwick had been evacuated and children taken to West Smethwick Park before being allowed to go home.
Local police officers have been sent to the affected schools to carry our checks and to offer reassurance.” Concerned parents said the threats were disrupting their children’s education.
Last week Four schools in the West Midlands were evacuated because of a security scare. Police confirmed the schools had been closed because of suspected bomb threats.
