ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Friday confirmed that black box was recovered belonging to the unlucky helicopter crash today in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Naltar Valley while engine failure caused the deadly incident.
Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry rejected any possibility of any terrorist activity behind the occurrence of the incident.
The foreign secretary while addressing a press briefing in Islamabad expressed grief over sad demise of foreign dignitaries in the helicopter crash incident.
He said it was a diplomatic nature trip that was planned to highlight major development activities in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to inaugurate a Ski chairlift in the area.
Helicopter Crash Incident:
It should be mentioned here that death toll post helicopter crash in Naltar Valley of Gilgit rose up to seven as chief technician died at hospital, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Ambassador of Philippines Domingo D Lucenario Jr, Ambassador of Norway Leif Larsen and the wives of the Malaysian and Indonesian ambassadors were among seven people killed in a helicopter crash.
Two pilots and a crew member were among those killed when the Pakistan Army helicopter crash-landed on a school in Naltar Valley, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major-General Asim Bajwa said. Media reports identified the two pilots as Major Altamash of Kohat and and Major Faisal of Swabi.
Injuries were also reported from the incident in which Dutch ambassador Marcel de Vink and Polish ambassador Andrzej Ananicz were injured.
