Karachi: Following rise in chicken price, price of beef has been increased by Rs50 per kilogram in the city.

Beef Merchants Association Chairman Nadeem Qureshi said that the reason of rise in the beef price was shortage in supply as well as export of the red meat. Exporters instead of cattle farming are purchasing beef from the local markets, causing rise in the prices, he added.

On the other hand, the shopkeepers said that buying of animals in the wake of coming Eidul Azha was also the reason of hike in the prices.

Consumers have complained that every thing had got costlier in the market. They said that the price of boneless beef had reached Rs750 per kilograms from 700.
