ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of reports of disallowing women to cast votes in different parts of Khyber Patkhunkhwa (KP) province.
ECP issued strict directions to the Deputy Returning Officers (DROs) after taking notice of forbidding women for casting their votes during election.
The institution said that barring women to cast their votes ‘is punishable, unconstitutional and un-Islamic move’. ECP said that women have constitutional, legal and Islamic rights to express their opinions to elect representatives.
ECP directed DROs to report immediately in such genre of incidents and rapid action would be taken. Moreover, ECP also dispatched a letter to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government.
