Bank robbery bid foiled, three members of banned outfit held in Karachi

KARACHI: The police foiled a bank robbery attempt and held one robber with looted cash while three members of a banned outfit were arrested besides recovery of arms from their possession here on Saturday.

According to reports, two armed robbers barged into a private bank branch in Bilal Colony of New Karachi and took the staff hostage at gun point and looted cash.

Upon getting the information, the police rushed to the scene and approached the robbers fleeing after committing the robbery near the bank and an exchange of fire took place. The police arrested one robber with Rs3,50,000 looted cash while  his cohort managed to escape.

Meanwhile the police on a tip-off conducted operation in Block “G” of Gulshan-e-Iqbal during which three members of a banned outfit were apprehended with arms.

The detainees were wanted  by the police and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in several cases of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom and collection of extortion money.

The police after registering separate cases in both incidents have started the investigation.—INP
