NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged Europe to do more for migrant crises and emphasized to look for root causes of the conflicts in the countries.

While addressing to his opening address to the General Assembly meeting-193, he said that international efforts needed to end the war in Syria.

“We should not be building fences or walls, but above all we must look at root causes, in countries of origin,” said Ban and added that more than four million people had been driven from the homes in the four-year war in Syria, with hundreds of thousands heading to Europe, pouring out of overcrowded refugee camps in Jordan and Turkey.

Ban has expressed his outrage over the treatment of migrants in Hungary, where the government has sealed off the border with Serbia and police have used water cannons to push back refugees.
