MINNEAPOLIS: In the city of Minneapolis in the US state of Minnesota, the call to prayer was allowed in mosques during Ramazan.

According to a foreign news agency, the call to prayer will be given in the local mosques of Minneapolis during Ramadan.

Jamal Usman, a member of the city council, introduced the bill in the name of equality, which was approved by the council. The bill allowed the call to prayer on loudspeakers from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.

According to the approval of the bill, three azans (limit of 70 decibels) can be given in a day in the city.

Earlier, 35 mosques in German city Cologne, including the country’s largest mosque had been permitted to broadcast Friday’s prayer to call over loudspeakers.

In this connection, an agreement has been inked between the Muslim community living in Cologne and the local administration.

Under the accord, all 35 mosques in the city can now broadcast Friday’s prayer to call for upto five minutes between noon and 3pm local time.

The agreement will be applicable for two years.

Taking to Twitter, Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker wrote: “Permitting the muezzin call is a sign of respect for me.”
