DUBAI: Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday condemned the attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran this month, saying it was “really bad”.
In remarks published on his website, he also thanked Revolutionary Guards for detaining a group of US sailors in the Gulf last week, adding they had done the right thing.
Khamenai’s condemnation came a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief general Raheel Sharidf visited Tehran and Riyadh in a bid to ease tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The attack on the embassy, which followed the execution of a prominent cleric by Saudi Arabia, soured diplomatic relations between the two countries.
