Attacker killed, policeman injured in attack on census team in Charsadda

CHARSADDA/ISLAMABAD: A policeman sustained severe wounds while the suspect was killed in an attack on census team amid tight security in Charsadda on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the team was busy in counting in Harichand area when unidentified armed man opened firing and hurt police officer Taj Mohammad.

Police personnel retaliated and arrested suspect Fakhar Alam in wounded condition who was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Army team’s Colonel Aftab and Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Ali assured that census process would be continued in the area.

The  local government has announced Rs 50,000 for injured police officer.

Meanwhile Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has announced special compensation worth Rs. 10,00,000/- (Ten Lac rupees) for the family of Mr. Abdul Qadir, an official deputed on Census duty, who died in a fatal accident in village Neen Ban, Mansehra Distt last week.

Mr. Abdul Qadir, a Primary School Teacher, who hailed from village Khun Shakoora, distt Mansehra was on census duty when the accident took place. He is survived by a widow, four sons, two daughters and aging parents.

Minister Dar has expressed deep sense of grief over the tragic death of Abdul Qadir and sympathized with the bereaved family, praying to Allah Almighty for granting them fortitude to bear this loss with equanimity.
