LAHORE: Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and rights activist Asma Jahangir on Wednesday cautioned politicians not to ‘cut the branch they are sitting on’.

The rights activist was talking to media on Wednesday where she criticised politicians who have spoken against the state institutions, advising them that mudslinging at the institutions would take the biggest toll on them.

“If the state institutions are dysfunctional then elections should not take place too,” she maintained.

Asma Jahangir inquired if institutions are not present then what are political parties doing, adding that if that is the case ‘then Imran Khan should also go home’.

She said that the country’s biggest political investors carry ‘pocket unions’.

‘The time of pocket unions has passed and those elements should act sensibly now,” she added.

In the past, Imran Khan has numerous times stated that the country’s institutions have failed to deliver justice or work independently.
