LAHORE: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has demanded Election Commission to implement article 62 and 63 in letter and spirit in the forthcoming elections.
Jamaat-e-Islami, at a high level meeting chaired by the JI chief Senator Sirajul Haq, at Mansoora on Monday, started work on its strategy for the next elections and finalization of its candidates for the National Assembly.
The meeting attended by central office bearers of the party, reviewed the NA constituencies all over the country and also decided its priorities in regard to the local bodies’ elections in the Punjab and Sind.
Addressing the meeting, Sirajul Haq said that if the political parties fielded honest and capable persons as candidates, the country could be freed from corruption, nepotism, commissions and lawlessness.
The JI chief called upon the Election Commission to permit only those candidates in the elections arena whose past record proved that they were not involved in plunder of the public exchequer nor had been proved dishonest in any manner. He said that the articles 62 and 63 of the constitution must be implemented in letter and spirit.
Sirajul Haq said that a number of criminals had taken shelter in political parties only to hide their crimes. He said that those who reached the assemblies on the power of their wealth only aim at minting money through fair and foul means and not at service of the masses. Such people had taken politics and democracy as hostage, he said.
The JI Amir stressed upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure the implementation on the limit of maximum expenditure during election campaign.
