KARACHI: Meeting of the Sindh apex committee headed by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took place in Karachi on Wednesday during which, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar and Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police briefed the participants regarding development in ongoing targeted operation in Karachi.
Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad, Corps Commander Karachi, Chief Secretary, senior minister Nisar Khuhro, Information Advisor to CM Maula Bakhsh Chandio, Law Advisor Murtaza Wahab and other top officials attended the meeting to review matters pertaining to registration of madrassas (seminaries), JITs for accused and establishment of anti-terrorism courts.
DG Rangers Maj Gen Bilal Akbar informed the participants that 848 target killers involved in 7,224 cases have been arrested since September 4, 2013.
Out of the total number of target killers arrested, 654 suspects affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have confessed to being involved in 5,863 incidents of target killings.
The Director General Rangers Sindh opposed quota system in Sindh, saying that quota system is contempt of merit whereas, Karachi operation details also tabled in APEX Committee.
While opposing quota system in Sindh, DG Rangers said in the session of APEX Committee that it is the contempt of merit due to which sense of frustration has been growing in youths of Sindh.
He further stated that most of the accused in arrested target killers are militant wing of a political party.
The MQM, run by the exiled Altaf Hussain from London, has long been blamed for ethnic violence in Karachi.
Meanwhile, Advisor to CM for Law Murtaza Wahab briefed the apex committee that registration of religious seminaries will be renewed. All the madrassas will be liable to obtain NOCs from deputy commissioner, district SP, Building Control Authority and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
He said madrassas cannot collect zakat and fitra directly and registration forms will be issued by the Sindh Home Department.
The apex committee also reached consensus over Sindh Maddaris Registration Bill 2016.
