ISLAMABAD: The second phase of injectable Polio Vaccine (IPV) campaign launched in 18 high risk union councils of district Killa Abdullah is continuing.
During the eight day campaign from April 13 to 20 more than 16,300 children will be vaccinated in Tehsil Killa Abdullah and Gulistan, health officials said.
The health authorities are urging the parents to get their children vaccinated to help them save from the crippling disease.
Earlier, a three-day anti polio campaign was conducted in three high risks districts of Balochistan from April 4.
According to officials, the initiative of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) programme was launched from April 4 in Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah districts in which nearly 239,199 children were injected against the crippling virus.
The first campaign of IPV programme was held from April 4 to 12, targeting more than 1,50,842 children in Quetta, 41,898 in Pishin and 46,450 in Killa Abdullah.
The 2nd IPV phase would be held from April 13 to 20 in Tehsil Killa Abdullah and Gulistan where more than 44,450 children would be injected with polio vaccine.
In Pishin more than 41,898 children would be vaccinated.
During the programme, children under age of 4 to 23 months would be injected with polio vaccine which would be helpful to halt polio virus from moving to rest of the province.
Children till the age of 23 months are most vulnerable to polio so under the umbrella of Federal Ministry of Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, campaigns would be conducted in high risk areas of Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stop virus from rearing its head among vulnerable populations.
