LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq said Imam Husain’s mission was the establishment of rule of the law with equal rights for all the citizens, a system based on Shoora (consultation) and the public exchequer as a trust from Allah and the nation.

Addressing a large Friday congregation at the Mansoora mosque he however said that the rulers had thrust a system based on tyranny and exploitation. He said that the message of the Karbala tragedy was to fight against oppression and tyranny.

Sirajul Haq said that the passage of a Bill in conflict with the Quran and the Sunnah by the joint session of the parliament proved that the ruling party was out to  demolish the ideological boundaries of the country on the basis of its majority.  He said that denying the right f compromise to the parties in the cases of honour killings was repugnant to the divine injunctions, and added that any law in conflict with the Shariah would not be tolerated.

He said that the Bill should have been referred to the Council of Islamic Ideology  (CII) for advice and deplored that a suggestion to this by the JI and others had not been accepted.  He further said the Bill had challenged the position of the CII. Sirajul Haq said that the constitution did not permit such a law and the ruling party and the PPP should respect the constitution. He said the message of Imam Husain (RA) to the Ummah was not to yield before tyranny and injustice. Therefore, he said, all those who loved Imam Husain would have to stand against tyranny.

The JI chief said that Imam Husain never desired power. Instead, his struggle was for the rule of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah and he sacrificed his entire family for this great cause. The Imam Husain’s everlasting message to the believers was not to bow before tyranny and not refrain from laying down ones life for the revival and survival of the Shariah system.

Sirajul Haq pointed out that the PPP’s founder Z.A. Bhutto had never imposed his socialist ideology on the country in respect of the sentiment of the nation and the PPP should follow the tradition set by its founder and not become a party to any legislation repugnant to the Holy Quran and the Sunnah.

Sirajul Haq said that the rulers were taking the public exchequer as their personal property and a huge sum of 7. 9 billion of the poor masses had been spent on the security of a single family.
