ANF recovered 2.31 tons drugs in nine operations

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in its drive against drug trafficking, has launched nine operations in different cities and recovered 2.31 tons of drugs, comprising 2273 kilograms (kg) charas, 31.7 kg heroin and six kg opium.

ANF also held 12 offenders during the operations who were allegedly involved in drug trafficking including two foreign nationals and impounded eight vehicles being used in drugs smuggling, says a press release issued here.

The operations were conducted during last week in Attock, Lahore, Faisalabad, Khushab, Nowshehra, Peshawar and Karachi. The estimated value of seized drugs is Rs 5.66 billion in international market.

According to details, ANF Rawalpindi while acting upon information intercepted two cars at GT Road, near Attock City and seized 12 kg charas and five kg opium concealed in secret cavities of the cars.

Three persons on board, identified as Kamran, Ejaz Alam and Abdul Wali were also held during the operation.

ANF Peshawar pursuing an intelligence report intercepted an Oil Tanker near Taro Jabba, GT Road, Nowhsehra. However, driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the scene taking advantage of the darkness. The team recovered 2020 kg charas.

In another operation, ANF Peshawar Road Check Team captured a Suzuki Pick-up near New Toll Plaza, Indus Highway, Kohat and recovered 37.2 kg Charas from the secret cavities of the vehicle. An accused was arrested.

ANF Peshawar also seized a Toyota Corolla Car at Havelian Bridge, G.T Road, Haripur and recovered 1.2 kg opium and 1.2 kg Charas.

Two persons on board namely Abdul Hameed resident of Charsadda and Muhammad Ghafoor resident of Rawalpindi were taken into custody.

ANF Lahore raided near Hamdard Chowk, Township, Lahore and arrested two foreigners along with 1.1 kg heroin, which was found in their personal possession.

In another operation, ANF Lahore Road Check Team stopped a Suzuki Mehran Car No. RLB-1074 near Bus Stand, Khushab City and recovered three kg charas concealed in the vehicle. Two accused namely Muhammad Aftab and Arshad Mehmood, both residents of Sargodha, were arrested.

ANF Lahore also captured a Hiace van from main Motorway Toll Plaza, Faisalabad and recovered five kg Charas from the vehicle. Khalid Khan resident of Charsadda was held.

ANF Karachi intercepted a car at Super Highway, near Toll Plaza, Karachi and recovered 195 kg Charas and 29 kg Heroin.

A person on board identified as accused Malik Basharat was also apprehended.

ANF Karachi also seized a parcel from the office of a courier service company, Karachi and recovered 1.6 kg Heroin concealed in a bundle of shopping bags.

The parcel was booked from Lahore for UK. All cases have been registered at respective ANF Police Stations and further investigations are underway.
