LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) secretary general, Liaqat Baloch, said that the democratic system in the country could be strengthened only if all state institutions worked within constitutional limits and in true democratic spirit.
Addressing party workers on connection with local bodies elections in the city on Wednesday, he said if the politicians, rulers, the armed forces and the bureaucracy crossed the constitutional limits, it created to chaos.
Liaqat Baloch said the democratic system was the only system acceptable to the masses all over the world and a stable form of government. However, he said that the world powers had always patronized dictators, tyrant and corrupt rulers only to serve their interests, and had thus harmed democracy.
The JI l central leader impressed upon the United Nations, the US and Europe to accept the democratic rights of the Muslims and their right to run their countries on democratic lines. He said that the democratic system acceptable to the Muslims was within the limits laid down by the Holy Quran and the Sunnah which protected human rights as also the rights of the minorities.
He said that the army take over in Egypt by toppling an elected government was another example of the anti democracy mindset of the western powers after such instances in Algeria and Palestine.
He stressed upon the political parties to organize their parties on true democratic lines. The state institutions should accept the supremacy of the constitution, the rule of law and holding of fair, free and transparent elections. He said that local bodies elections should be held in the Punjab and Sindi on the dates already announced and in an impartial manner.
