MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission on Saturday renewed its warning against use of official resources for electioneering, and directed district administration officials not to offer any “kind of protocol” to the federal ministers visiting the region for the purpose.
A spokesman for the commission recalled that a ‘code of conduct’ for political parties and candidates for the upcoming polls was unveiled by chief election commissioner on June 6 on the occasion of announcement of election schedule, which made it clear that the candidates, including AJK prime minister, speaker, deputy speaker, members of the AJK and federal cabinets, will have to refrain from using official vehicles and other official resources during election campaign.
“Since there have been complaints about its violation, all concerned are once again being strictly reminded to adhere to it in letter and in spirit,” the spokesman said.
He said the federal ministers should avoid using official transport and other resources while canvassing for their favourites in AJK.
Apart from that, officials of the district administration should avoid providing any kind of protocol to the federal ministers until elections, he added.
The PTI president Barrister Sultan Mahmood had called upon the chief election commissioner, through a written application, to take stock of the alleged use of official resources by federal ministers for election campaign of the PML-N candidates.
